Cooking

Cast iron, foil packets, and the one-pot rule.

One pot, many meals

The backcountry kitchen is a single cast-iron pan and a rule: if it needs two pots, it needs to be simpler.

What we make

breakfast oats + nuts + dried fruit
lunch foil-packet fish, root veg, butter
dinner one-pot stew over a bed of coals
dessert bannock, cast iron, honey

Why coals beat flames

Flames scorch. Coals cook. Rake a bed to the side, set your pan in, and let the heat do the quiet work.
